BAPS Swaminarayan temples in Gujarat were structurally constrained with their canopy-style roofs, architecturally beautiful but of low load-carrying capacity, rendering conventional solar panels insecure. Waaree RTL implemented a 1 MW solar installation across seven temple locations employing 500 Wp ultra-light-weight flexible modules, with about 2,000 modules installed. This creative solution realised over 1.3 million kWh per annum, facilitated safe and quick installations and energy autonomy. The project established a precedent for solar deployment in heritage and structurally sensitive religious environments, combining architectural harmony, public safety, and sustainable power generation with an enhanced commitment to environmental responsibility.
The temple rooftops were of a canopy style, with a low load-bearing capacity and a fragile structure. The installation of conventional glass solar panels jeopardised roof safety and visitor security, requiring a lightweight, aesthetically compatible energy solution.
Waaree RTL's ultra-lightweight solar technology was the lone option that brought together ultra-lightweight design, quick installation, and non-glass safety features, fully converging to maintain temple looks, guarantee structural integrity, and achieve sustainable, autonomous power generation.
Waaree installed its high-performance 500 Wp ultra-lightweight, flexible solar modules at seven BAPS temple locations, utilising a non-invasive, canopy-compatible design. Every module was precluded from requiring heavy mounting structures, thereby ensuring rooftop integrity. The panels were adhered directly to the surface, facilitating installations up to three times faster than traditional practices, while causing minimal disruption due to religious considerations. The low-weight, glass-free solution improved structural strength and avoided pitfalls. The 2,000-module configuration of the system yielded 1 MW capacity, producing more than 1.3 million kWh yearly, facilitating energy autonomy. Sensitive planning and implementation secured cosmetic consistency with temple design and maintained public safety. Waaree's solution harmoniously integrates renewable power into heritage environments, providing efficient and long-lasting solar installations.

The BAPS temples have achieved a 1 MW solar capacity across seven sites, generating 1.3 million kWh annually, which significantly reduces their reliance on the grid. The ultra-lightweight modules (500 Wp) preserved the delicate canopy structures, ensuring no roof damage or safety hazards. Adhesive mounting eliminated the need for drilling, providing a faster and safer installation. The system's low profile and non-glass design respected the temples' architectural aesthetics while promoting sustainability. This project established a new standard for installing solar energy systems in heritage settings, prioritising public safety, design integrity, and energy innovation. Waaree RTL's solution provided secure, high-yielding renewable energy without sacrificing structure or peace, demonstrating its speciality in leading-edge, sensitive, sacred-space solar installations.
The BAPS temples benefited from safe, fast and visually integrated rooftop solar solutions tailored for heritage sites.
