Waaree Energies Ltd. successfully executed solar power project commissioned by ArcelorMittal in Village Kandikayapalli, near Kurnool city in Andhra Pradesh. Covering approximately 700 acres of rugged, rocky terrain, this project marks one of the largest solar installations in the region. Waaree’s scope included the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) of a 295.68 MWp DC / 211.2 MW AC solar PV plant. The implementation included the installation of 401,520 high-efficiency 550 Wp modules and was impressively completed within just 8 months.
Special Features and Significance
A key highlight of this project is its location—entirely on sheet rock and barren government-designated wasteland. Rather than converting fertile land, Waaree maximized the utility of this non-arable terrain, showcasing a strong commitment to sustainable infrastructure development. The engineering and execution on such harsh terrain underline the company’s leadership in handling complex and large-scale EPC assignments in the renewable energy sector.
Execution Challenges and Innovative Solutions
The execution team faced significant hurdles due to the geological nature of the land, which was completely covered in large boulders and sheet rock. Simply walking through the PV yard was a challenge, let alone executing civil and mechanical work. Excavation, even to a shallow depth of 1 foot, required controlled blasting. Waaree tackled these challenges head-on by deploying specialized machinery capable of rock drilling and developed customized engineering methods for foundational and structural work. This innovative and adaptive approach allowed the team to complete the project on schedule without compromising quality or safety.
